Ghana’s music culture is a vibrant tapestry of local and global influences, showcased in festivals like AfroFuture, Tidal Rave, AfroNation, and Asabako. This passion for music extends far beyond homegrown talent, embracing sounds from across the globe.
Spotify Wrapped 2024 highlights Ghana’s diverse musical taste, celebrating both local stars and international genres. According to Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Ghanaians are not just consumers of music but active contributors to Africa’s flourishing music scene. “Spotify Wrapped 2024 reflects how Ghanaians expand their musical horizons, embrace diverse sounds, and deepen their connection to music,” she stated.
Leading the charge is Black Sherif, also known as “Killa Blacko,” who takes the crown as Ghana’s most streamed artist for the second year in a row. His hit album The Villain I Never Was dominated the charts, while his track Oil In My Head ranked among the most streamed Ghanaian songs of the year. Black Sherif’s unique storytelling and infectious beats have turned his music into anthems for a new generation.
Ghana’s music scene continues to thrive on cross-cultural influences. While artists like Sarkodie and Kweku Smoke remain fan favorites, international icons such as Nigeria’s Asake and Burna Boy also resonate deeply with listeners.
The year’s most streamed song, Wotowoto by Odumodublvck and Black Sherif, reflects this fusion. Other popular tracks include Asylum by Olivetheboy, Puul by Lasmid, Lomo Lomo by KiDi, and Aseda by King Paluta.
Ghana’s love for female artists is evident, with Ayra Starr, Tems, and SZA leading the charge among international acts. On the local scene, Gyakie shines as the most streamed Ghanaian female artist, with Amaarae and Black Sherif making waves globally.
Spotify Wrapped 2024 offers users a personalized experience, accessible exclusively through the Spotify mobile app on iOS and Android. Fans can share their Wrapped results on social media platforms, including TikTok, thanks to Spotify’s new sharing integration.
This year’s Spotify Wrapped underscores Ghana’s rich musical heritage, its embrace of global sounds, and music’s unique power to connect cultures and communities.
