Highlife legend Kwaisey Pee has revealed that many younger musicians in the industry do not see eye to eye with him due to his outspoken nature and candid advice. In an interview on Joy Prime’s ‘Changes’ show with Roselyn Felli, Kwaisey Pee shared that his honest feedback, intended to guide and mentor, is often misunderstood as criticism or hatred, creating friction with the younger generation.
Kwaisey Pee explained that his comments, while meant to offer constructive guidance, are frequently met with resistance. He reflected on how his outspoken opinions about the industry have caused some younger artists to shy away from working with him. He revealed that when he sought collaborations with a few emerging talents, they declined, citing his critical remarks about the industry as the reason.
“I wanted to do a collabo with a couple of them a year or two ago, but they felt like I’m always speaking against them. So, why would they collaborate with me?” Kwaisey Pee said. “It’s something within our culture. As Ghanaians, we don’t want to be told anything. We don’t like being talked at.”
Despite facing backlash for his honest approach, Kwaisey Pee has made it clear that his intentions have always been to support and elevate young talents. He expressed disappointment over the industry’s reluctance to accept constructive feedback but has learned to accept the resistance.
Looking to the future, Kwaisey Pee shared his decision to refrain from publicly commenting on any artist in 2025, aiming to avoid further animosity. He also used the opportunity to encourage younger musicians to embrace constructive criticism as an essential part of building successful careers.
“I want to encourage the younger generation to be open to feedback. It’s vital in developing and growing in the music industry,” Kwaisey Pee advised.
While the tensions between generations remain, Kwaisey Pee’s dedication to pushing the industry forward and his desire to see young artists thrive are clear.
