Legendary Ghanaian musician Kojo Antwi, affectionately known as “The Music Man,” has always been a trailblazer in the world of highlife, reggae, and Afro-fusion. Now, he’s set his sights on a dream performance at the world-renowned Madison Square Garden in New York.

Having graced stages across Europe—including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy—Kojo Antwi sees Madison Square Garden as the crowning jewel in his career.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday, December 23, Kojo Antwi said:

I see Mike Tyson and other big shows there [Madison Square Garden], and if I get the chance to perform, that would be great.

An Upcoming Celebration of Artistry

Before his Madison Square Garden dream becomes reality, fans can look forward to an electrifying performance at the Kojo Antwified II concert on December 24, 2024, at the UPSA Auditorium in Legon.

The event, which kicks off at 6 PM, will feature a star-studded lineup, including Adina, Epixode, and a surprise act. Kojo Antwi described the concert as a celebration of artistry and musical excellence.

It’s a blend of different artists, and I’m the headline act,” he shared, promising a night of unforgettable music and captivating stagecraft.

A Decade in the Making

Kojo Antwi also revealed that his latest album, though ready for the past six years, remains unreleased as he waits for the perfect moment to share it with the world. With just 13 albums to his name, he continues to emphasize quality over quantity in his musical journey.

The new one has been ready for six years already, and we’re just waiting for the right time to drop it,” he disclosed.

Music Without Boundaries

Often labeled as a highlife musician, Kojo Antwi is quick to remind fans that his music transcends genres.

Highlife musician limits me as a performer. My music is centered around reggae, but there’s a lot of highlife and other elements in what I do,” he explained.

The maestro’s creative process reflects his versatility, drawing inspiration from daily experiences and conversations.

A musician has to be very creative. I do lyrics and then find a beat, or I work with people and melodies,” he said, adding that melodies often come to him intuitively, “like tongues,” which he later develops into lyrics.

Evolving with the Times

Kojo Antwi also highlighted the growing importance of visuals in today’s music industry.

Right now, you cannot have a song out there without a video,” he noted, acknowledging the shift towards visually engaging content and his commitment to connecting with fans through social media.

Leaving a Legacy

Reflecting on his career, Kojo Antwi expressed pride in the enduring impact of his music while recognizing the inevitable passage of time.

Everything that was created will fade out. When it’s my time, I’ll just walk off and allow the young ones to take over,” he said.

Looking ahead, he announced plans to release a book chronicling his journey in the music industry, aimed at inspiring future generations and enriching the Ghanaian music scene.

Kojo Antwi’s unwavering dedication to his craft and his visionary dreams ensure that his legacy will remain timeless in the hearts of music lovers worldwide.
