World Athletics Tokyo, September 20, 2025 ,Team Ghana has written a new chapter in the nation’s athletics history, storming to a national record of 37.79 seconds in the men’s 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Championships to win their heat and qualify for the grand final.
The quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu delivered a flawless performance on the track, with smooth baton exchanges and blistering speed that stunned their opponents.
Ghana’s previous national record stood at 38.07 seconds, set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene,USA. The new 37.79s mark not only shattered that record but also ranked the team among the fastest in the world going into the finals. with their incredible split time.
Joe Paul Amoah speaking after the race, says “we are closer to what we are looking for” therefore they are eyeing for the ultimate prize.
Many analysts praised the team’s chemistry and composure under pressure, especially in executing clean handovers often the deciding factor in relay races at this level.
