Top broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah has set social media buzzing after declaring that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is the most powerful king in Africa.

Nana Aba made the bold statement on Saturday night’s edition of UTV’s United Showbiz, where she passionately praised the Ashanti monarch. According to her, Otumfuo’s authority and influence go far beyond Ghana, making him the most respected and revered traditional ruler on the continent.

“It’s the way every celebration from the kingdom unites Ghana. People come from all walks of life, it speaks to the unity of this country and the immense power the Ashanti king wields. I see people saying all sorts of things about the Asantehene, masa, sit down” she said.

The comment, delivered partly in Twi, immediately sparked reactions online after clips from the show hit Twitter (X), Instagram and TikTok. Fans flooded timelines with mixed responses while many agreed with her, others opened debates about what defines a king’s “power” in today’s world.

Supporters of her view pointed to Otumfuo’s philanthropy, his education fund, his role in conflict resolution, and his diplomatic presence as proof of his unrivaled influence. Critics, however, argued over whether “power” should be measured in cultural, political, or global terms.

Regardless of the debate, one thing is clear Nana Aba’s comment has once again placed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the center of national conversation. The Asantehene, who has ruled since 1999, remains one of Ghana’s most admired traditional leaders, commanding respect both locally and internationally.

For now, Nana Aba’s declaration on United Showbiz has given social media a hot topic  and kept the Asantehene trending once more.
