Guru Opens Up on Alleged Sabotage During His Tenure as UG SRC President

Musician and Student Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Ghana, Guru, has opened up about what he describes as deliberate attempts by some individuals to sabotage one of the major events organized under his administration.

Speaking during a charged TikTok Live session, the musician revealed that while planning the SRC Artistes’ Night, some members of the university community allegedly worked behind the scenes to undermine his efforts.

According to Guru, he leveraged his connections in the music industry to secure top Ghanaian artistes who agreed to perform for free in support of the student body. However, he claimed that certain individuals spread misinformation to those same artistes, suggesting that he had collected money meant for their performances.

“I had struggled to bring artistes to come and perform for free. These same people went to inform the artistes that I was lying — that I had taken money and was swindling them,” Guru said.

The rapper further alleged that these individuals also reached out to the event’s organizers, urging them to withdraw their support by suggesting the event would not be profitable.

“Some people went behind my back to tell the event organizer to pull out, saying he would run at a loss if he invested in it,” he recounted.

Guru expressed disappointment that after the event took place, the same individuals who allegedly sabotaged it were among the first to criticize its outcome.

“After the event, they were the ones claiming the SRC Week had flopped — that the setup wasn’t quality and I couldn’t bring A-list artistes,” he said in frustration.

Defending his administration’s efforts, Guru revealed that the entire week’s celebration had a limited budget of ¢200,000, which he argued was insufficient to meet the high expectations placed on the SRC.

“They wanted a quality event with that amount? How much would one A-list artiste like Sarkodie or Black Sherif even take?” he questioned.

He also pointed to the huge production budgets behind major entertainment events such as Tidal Rave and Rapperholic, emphasizing that large-scale shows demand significant investment.

The University of Ghana’s 67th SRC Week Celebration, which took place from August 10 to 16, 2025, featured a weeklong lineup of activities including gospel rock shows, cultural displays, cooking contests, talent shows, and a grand artiste night that featured Sarkodie as the headline performer.

The event, organized under Guru’s leadership, aimed to celebrate student talent and unity while marking the conclusion of the outgoing SRC administration’s term.
