Chris Brown is taking legal action against Warner Bros., seeking $500 million in damages over allegations made in the docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence. The R&B singer claims the series falsely labeled him a serial rapist and abuser.

Filed on January 21, 2025, in California’s Superior Court for Los Angeles County, the lawsuit targets Warner Bros., Ample, and the documentary’s producers for defamation, libel, and emotional distress. The docuseries, which aired in October 2024, featured multiple women who accused Brown of abuse, including one anonymous woman known as Jane Doe, who claims he raped her in 2020. Brown’s attorneys have denied all allegations.

In the lawsuit, Brown criticizes the documentary for airing “lies and deception” and violating journalistic standards. They argue that the claims were misleading and discredited by prior legal actions, including a dismissed case in 2022 involving the same accuser. The lawsuit also includes evidence, such as text messages and a restraining order, which suggest the accuser’s dishonesty.

Brown’s attorneys argue that the documentary has harmed his career and reputation, particularly given his efforts to redeem himself after his 2009 conviction for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages and a jury trial.
