Ghanaian media personality and talk show host, Deloris Frimpong Manso—better known as Delay—has shared her thoughts on the ongoing controversy surrounding King Paluta’s hit song, Makoma, and its exclusion from the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nominations.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Delay took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disappointment about the snub. In a post, she emphasized the importance of continuous prayer, writing: “How @KingPalutaMusic Makoma wasn’t nominated, is why I keep praying without ceasing. Under your very eyes, what belongs to you will be snatched away if you cease praying.” Her words have sparked further discussion around the situation, with fans and industry insiders questioning the decision.

King Paluta’s Petition to the TGMA Board

Following the official announcement of the 2025 TGMA nominees on March 15, King Paluta and his management team swiftly filed a petition with the TGMA board on March 18. In the petition, they requested an explanation for the exclusion of Makoma from the nominations. The song had been submitted for consideration in four categories:

  1. Most Popular Song of the Year
  2. Record of the Year
  3. Hiplife Song of the Year
  4. Songwriter of the Year

According to the petition, Makoma has been one of the most impactful songs in Ghana over the past year, dominating the airwaves and becoming a cultural phenomenon. The petition further argued that the song does not violate any ethical or moral standards set by the awards scheme, questioning why it was left out.

The Success of ‘Makoma’

Since its release in 2024, Makoma has been a massive success, capturing the attention of music lovers both in Ghana and beyond. The song has gained widespread radio and TV play, and consistently topped digital platforms and social media trends. Its exclusion from the TGMA nominations has baffled many, considering its popularity and impact.

Interestingly, while Makoma was left out of the nominations, King Paluta’s other track, Aseda, did receive a nomination for Most Popular Song of the Year. However, his management team maintains that Makoma deserved recognition as well, and they remain hopeful that the TGMA board will address their concerns.

Delay’s Support and Growing Attention

Delay’s public reaction has only fueled the conversation around the snub, bringing more attention to the matter. As the situation continues to unfold, all eyes are now on the TGMA board to see how they will respond to the petition from King Paluta and his team.

With the music industry buzzing about the exclusion of Makoma, it remains to be seen whether the TGMA board will offer an explanation or reconsider their decision. For now, fans and industry figures alike continue to rally behind King Paluta, hoping for a fair resolution.
