MTV has announced that legendary Hip-Hop artist Busta Rhymes will be honored with the prestigious Global Icon Award at the 2024 MTV EMAs, broadcasting live from Manchester’s Co-op Live on Sunday, November 10.
Busta Rhymes is set to perform a special medley of his greatest hits, including his recent viral sensation, “Do The BusABus Pt.2.” This award comes on the heels of his electrifying performance at South Africa’s DStv Delicious Festival, where he expressed his deep connection to African hip-hop culture, making this recognition all the more meaningful.
Reflecting on the honor, Busta Rhymes said, “I am beyond honored and grateful to receive the MTV EMA Global Icon Award. This award not only celebrates my career but also Hip-Hop culture. To be recognized on a global stage is a reminder that Hip-Hop has no boundaries—and neither do I!”
Recognized as one of Hip-Hop’s most influential figures, Busta Rhymes boasts a legendary career with seven Top 10 Billboard debuts, over 10 million albums sold, and 12 Grammy nominations. Acclaimed by JAY-Z as “the greatest performer of all time” and by MTV as “one of hip-hop’s greatest visual artists,” he has collaborated with music giants like Dr. Dre, Janet Jackson, Eminem, Missy Elliott, and Kendrick Lamar. His latest hit album, “BLOCKBUSTA,” self-produced with Pharrell, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz, has set the stage for his upcoming 12th studio album, “Dragon Season.”
The 2024 MTV EMAs will air live in over 150 countries, including MTV on DStv Channel 130 and GOtv Channel 141 at 8pm. Joining Busta on stage will be acts like Benson Boone, LE SSERAFIM, Peso Pluma, Pet Shop Boys, RAYE, Shawn Mendes, Teddy Swims, The Warning, and Tyla.
Fans can vote for categories including “Best Song,” “Best Artist,” and “Best Collaboration” at mtvema.com until November 6 at 9pm, with “Biggest Fans” voting to follow via @MTVEMA on social.
