Former Black Starlets head coach and ex-Ghana international, Laryea Kingston, has expressed his deep disappointment over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

For the first time in two decades, Ghana’s senior national team will not be part of Africa’s biggest football tournament. Under the leadership of Otto Addo, the Black Stars endured a tough qualifying campaign, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points. The team managed only three draws and suffered three defeats, ultimately missing out on a spot in the competition, which will be hosted in Morocco.

Speaking ahead of the tournament’s final draw on Monday, Kingston did not hide his frustration over Ghana’s absence from AFCON 2025.

I am very disappointed that our beloved country, Ghana, did not qualify. One of the strongest nations in African football will not be participating in AFCON, and that is quite a disappointing moment for me,” he told Sporty FM.

Despite this setback, the Black Stars must now shift their focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Their next challenge will be crucial matches against Chad and Madagascar in March, where they will look to redeem themselves and keep their World Cup dreams alive.

Stay tuned for more updates on Ghana football!
