Paris Saint Germain star Ousmane Dembélé has completed his football fairytale by winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or, cementing his place among the game’s greatest players.

The French winger picked up the award on Monday night in Paris after a spectacular 2024/25 campaign that saw him lead PSG to a historic treble, including their first ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

For years, Dembélé was seen as a player of raw talent but held back by constant injuries. This season, however, everything clicked. The 28-year-old was unplayable, scoring 35 goals across all competitions while adding creativity and flair to PSG’s attack. His performances in crucial Champions League matches were the highlight of his season, proving he could shine under the brightest lights.

Dembélé edged out Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who finished second, with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and PSG teammates Vitinha and Achraf Hakimi also making the top rankings. Former PSG talisman Kylian Mbappé was among the contenders too, but this year belonged to Dembélé.

The announcement came from none other than Ronaldinho, and the packed hall erupted as Dembélé’s name was revealed. Fighting back tears, the winger thanked his family, teammates, and fans.

“The Ballon d’Or is the Holy Grail of Football. When you look at the legends who have won it, it’s exceptional.”

“When you play for PSG, there are far more important things than individual awards.” he added.

With this triumph, Dembélé becomes only the fourth Frenchman in history to win the Ballon d’Or, following in the footsteps of Michel Platini, Zinedine Zidane, and Karim Benzema.

His win also marks a new era for PSG, proving their rise is no longer about big signings alone, but about delivering when it matters most.

For Dembélé, this award is the ultimate redemption story  from injury-plagued seasons at Barcelona to becoming the best player in the world at PSG. For French football, it’s another proud moment as Les Bleus prepare for future international tournaments with one of the world’s best leading the charge.
