Ghanaian rapper Yaw Tog, known for his 2020 breakthrough hit “Sore,” has opened up about how fame changed his relationships and the people around him.
In a recent interview with Headless YouTuber, the young artiste reflected on the early days of his career, admitting that his sudden rise to fame came with both success and painful lessons.
According to Yaw Tog, one of his biggest regrets was allowing too many people into his inner circle when he first gained attention for “Sore.”
“My worst experience is allowing too many people to also be in the spotlight with me when ‘Sore’ was on, but now those people no dey around anymore,” he said.
The rapper clarified that his comments were not directed at the fellow artistes featured on the hit single — O’Kenneth, City Boy, Reggie, and Jay Bahd — but rather at others who surrounded him at the time.
Yaw Tog explained that many of those individuals seemed to have been drawn to his success, but disappeared once the spotlight dimmed.
“Not the guys who were on ‘Sore’ with me specifically, but everybody that came around me at the time — it’s something I would say I’ve regretted. I don’t even get a call from them anymore,” he revealed.
Despite the disappointment, Yaw Tog noted that he has come to accept it as part of the reality of the entertainment industry.
“It’s not easy to be an independent artiste,” he added, hinting that the journey has taught him to be more cautious about who he lets into his space.
Yaw Tog’s reflections echo the challenges many young artistes face in navigating fame, trust, and authenticity in Ghana’s competitive music scene.
