Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has showered praises on Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, while, also explaining his absence from the four day Dote Yie, the funeral rites of the Late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, which ended on September 18, 2025.
Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Shatta Wale explained that his absence was not out of disrespect but rather due to protocol. According to him, he did not receive an official invitation to the ceremony and believed it would have been improper to attend without one.
“I didn’t get an official invitation, and I respect the customs and protocols of the Asante Kingdom. It wouldn’t have been right for me to just show up without being formally invited,” he said.
Beyond clarifying his absence, Shatta Wale heaped praises on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, describing him as a visionary and a true father figure for the Asante Kingdom and Ghana as a whole. He noted that his admiration for the Asantehene remains unwavering, and his absence should not be mistaken for disregard.
“Otumfuo, you need to fear him because he does not lie to the Asante Kingdom and stands firm for his people. If I were in Kumasi, they would have to give me a job. Every morning, I would go to sweep in front of Manhyia Palace. Even if they asked me to sweep there three times a year, I would do it to learn and seek blessings from that royalty he represents,” he added.
His remarks have since generated conversations online, with many fans applauding him for showing respect to tradition while also reaffirming his loyalty and reverence for the Asantehene.
Shatta Wale’s explanation sheds light on the intersection between celebrity culture and traditional protocol, reminding Ghanaians of the importance of respecting established customs even in public life.
