US-based Ghanaian gospel preacher and singer Sonnie Badu has urged individuals preparing for marriage to prioritise purpose and vision when choosing a life partner.
In a video shared on Instagram on February 15, 2026, Sonnie Badu advised women in particular to seek partners who possess clear direction and defined goals before committing to marriage. According to him, marrying a man without vision can significantly delay a woman’s progress in life.
Drawing from a recent marriage counselling session, he revealed that he asked a groom whether he had a clear purpose and vision prior to proceeding with the marriage. “If you don’t have a purpose and a vision, don’t marry,” he stated, explaining that in many marriages, a wife often finds herself living out her dreams within the framework of her husband’s purpose.

Sonnie Badu further emphasised the importance of alignment between partners, noting that women whose ambitions do not align with their partner’s direction should carefully reconsider such relationships. He stressed that emotional attachment alone is not a sufficient foundation for marriage.
While maintaining his view that leadership within marriage rests with the man, he added that women play a pivotal role as supporters and driving forces behind their partner’s vision and long-term success.
His comments have since sparked conversations online, with many sharing differing perspectives on purpose, partnership, and leadership in marriage.
