On December 13, 2024, Taylor Swift made history at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), surpassing Drake to become the most-decorated BBMA winner of all time. With a total of 49 career trophies, Swift has now solidified her place as one of the most successful and influential artists in the history of the awards.
At the 2024 BBMAs, Swift walked away with an impressive 10 awards, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Streaming Songs Artist, and Top Billboard 200. This victory allowed her to surpass Drake, who had previously held the title with 39 wins. Although Drake added three more awards to his collection, bringing his total to 42, it was Swift’s night to shine.
In an emotional pre-recorded speech, Taylor expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to Billboard and to all my supporters for caring about our albums and coming to see us in concert.” She went on to thank her fans for embracing her music, mentioning the success of her Eras Tour and her latest release, The Tortured Poets Department.
“This is the nicest early birthday present I could have received. It’s exactly what I wanted,” Taylor added, as her 35th birthday was just around the corner. Her heartfelt words reflect her deep appreciation for the recognition and the enduring connection with her fans.
Swift’s dominance on the Billboard charts has been undeniable. In 2022, she made history by occupying the entire Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with tracks from her Midnights album. Earlier this year, she broke her own record by securing the top 14 spots on the Hot 100 after the release of The Tortured Poets Department. The album spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the longest streak of any of her albums, and she made history again by becoming the only living artist to have five albums appear in the top 10 simultaneously in 2023.
The 2024 Billboard Music Awards aired on FOX, with comedian and actor Michelle Buteau hosting the star-studded event. Performances from iconic artists like Coldplay, Linkin Park, and Shaboozey lit up the night, adding to the excitement of the evening.
Taylor Swift’s incredible achievements continue to redefine the music industry, and with this latest milestone, her legacy only grows stronger.
